During the 1990s Michael Jordan was the most recognisable athlete on the planet. His number 23 jersey was worn by millions of fans around the world and his Air Jordan brand shoes helped to make him the richest sportsman of the decade.

He could never have imagined this success as a youngster when he was cut from his high school basketball team. Instead of giving up he worked harder to eventually prove his coaches wrong and earn a scholarship at the University of North Carolina. The game winning shot he hit in the 1982 NCAA finals launched him as an NBA prospect and future superstar.

He was picked in the 1984 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls and played for them for nine years, winning three championships and seven scoring titles. He retired from basketball in 1993 after the death of his father and attempted a career as a professional baseball player. After limited success he returned to basketball in 1995 and won three more titles with the Bulls between 1996 and 1998. He retired for the second time in 1999 with ten scoring titles and five most valuable player (MVP) awards.

Jordan maintained an interest in basketball as a manager for the struggling Washington Wizards, their frustrating performances prompted him to lead by example and return to active play in 2001. He retired for the third and final time in 2003 and is now a successful business man. In a career spanning three decades Jordan broke virtually every NBA record and won countless awards, including two Olympic gold medals. He is acknowledged as the most popular and successful player in NBA history.

This book is part of the Biography Shorts Series - Concise, fast paced biographies with no padding. At around 14,000 words this book is designed to be read in little over an hour.

The one and only New York Times bestselling autobiography by Lucille Ball...

"Filled with light and laughter." New York Times Book Review

"Lucy fans will find this book fascinating." Detroit News

"A winner." New York Newsday

"Intensely moving." San Francisco Chronicle
Although Lucille Ball died in 1989, this autobiography written prior to 1964 has only recently been discovered among her papers. She describes a childhood deeply affected by her father's death and her mother's withdrawal from her life. Raised by her grandparents, Ball craved attention and developed a tempestuous, vivacious, fiery, and yet insecure personality that would later lead her to comic stardom. It took years of working from the bottom of show business before she became a television hit, with the help of her husband, co-star, and business partner, former Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz. Ball abandoned the book for fear of hurting Arnaz, although she gives him credit for the tremendous success she enjoyed with "I Love Lucy."

Ask any visitor to London, from Tokyo to Tennessee, what is their number one priority in places to see, and the answer will invariably be: Buckingham Palace. It is by far the most famous building in the world and the lady who lives there, Queen Elizabeth 11, is easily the most famous woman on the planet.

Her Majesty employs some 1,200 men and women, full and part-time, permanent and temporary in her various Royal residences with over 400 working for her at Buckingham Palace alone.

So, what is she like to work for? Is she a generous employer? Does she encourage friendliness among those whose salaries she pays or does she prefer to keep her distance? Is it true she hates her servants to have facial hair – beards or moustaches? Why do the housemaids have to vacuum while walking backwards at all times? How are the servants told to react when they meet the Queen or any member of her family? What’s the money like?

In many ways Her Majesty is a model employer, providing food, drink and accommodation, at the best address in London, to her staff, but one thing she does not offer is high wages.

So why do most of them stay for many years? This book gives all the answers from the inside.
